Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham may face an uphill battle for the Premier League as Erling Haaland could be set to extend his contract with Manchester City.
That's according to the Daily Star, which reports that the current Premier League champions are hopeful of presenting a fresh offer to the Norwegian international to ward off interest from Real Madrid or Saudi Arabia in the future. The report claims that his salary could nearly double.
Haaland has been a clearly successful transfer for City, having signed for the club from Borussia Dortmund last summer. His debut campaign ended with 36 goals in 35 league appearances, earning himself the Golden Boot alongside a whole host of headlines and a treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
This season has seen him get off to a similarly quick start, bagging six goals in four games so far, including a hattrick against Fulham in his most recent clash. It seems as though, with Haaland spearheading the City attack, many teams will have trouble toppling them from a title challenge.
Arsenal have come close, leading for the majority of last season before a host of poor results towards the back end of the fixture list saw them fall away and settle for second. A summer of heavy investment has seen their season get off to a decent, if not fully fluid, start with ten points from a possible 12 on offer.
North London rivals Tottenham could be within a surprise shout of competing for the title this year as new boss Ange Postecoglou has taken his project off the ground. Free-flowing, attacking football has met with results to also pick up ten points from their opening four games.
