Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham told Mohamed Salah transfer 'guarantee' amid Liverpool battle
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham will be given major boosts to their hopes of finishing in the Premier League top-four this season if Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool this summer. That's according to Paul Merson, who expects the Reds to cash in on the 31-year-old forward attracting interest from the Middle East.
According to The Athletic on deadline day, the Merseyside outfit rejected a verbal offer, which was thought to be in excess of £100million plus substantial add-ons, from the Saudi Pro League to sign Salah. The report states that Liverpool gave the bid no consideration and turned it down immediately.
It's believed that the proposal was made on behalf of Al Ittihad during a call with Liverpool director Mike Gordon on Thursday night. While Jurgen Klopp has ruled out any prospect of the Egyptian leaving Anfield, Merson believes that the Reds will let Salah leave if a £200million bid is submitted before the Saudi Pro League deadline at 10pm on September 7.
«He's one of the best players in the world – it's a hard one,» wrote the former Arsenal midfielder in a column for Sky Sports. «If you sell him for £150m what can you bring in? They're not going to be better than Salah.
»But at the same time, are they going to win the league this season? I don't think so. Do you take the money and try to rebuild? With another week of their window to go, they might just come in and say £200m and then it's a worry.
