Manchester City have been dealt a major boost to their hopes of winning the Premier League following the imminent return of Erling Haaland. The 23-year-old striker hasn't featured in the English top flight since early December after suffering a stress injury in his foot.
Despite attempts to return earlier, Haaland was forced to stop training the week before the Newcastle United fixture. The Norway international also missed some sessions during City's warm weather training camp out in Abu Dhabi.
After six weeks or so on the sidelines, Haaland has finally returned to first-team training – which comes as a huge boost for Pep Guardiola's side, who are currently five points adrift of table toppers Liverpool. According to the Manchester Evening News, there will be no timeframe put on the Norwegian's return given the complexity of the issue, but it's a step in the right direction nonetheless.
City will face Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night and Guardiola will almost certainly be asked for another update on Haaland when he addresses the media on Thursday. The reigning Premier League champions have also recently welcomed back Kevin De Bruyne from the treatment.
Upon his long-awaited return, the midfielder led City to a crucial victory over Newcastle at St. James' Park. Speaking on TNT Sports, Rio Ferdinand warned Mikel Arteta that De Bruyne could single-handedly crush Arsenal's title dreams.
«I’ll tell you one thing, that man there [De Bruyne], you’re back, you are back,» said the former Manchester United defender, as quoted by the MEN. «You are the jewel in the crown, you’re back. Look at us now, watch momentum kick in now and these guys know what to do.
