Rodri has revealed that Manchester City star John Stones played through injury during the 'risky' Real Madrid match, risking the potential of aggravating the injury amid the Premier League title race with Arsenal and Liverpool.
Despite suffering from 'problems', Stones showed his bravery by participating in the quarter-final clash against Real Madrid. He played the full 90 minutes of the 3-3 draw with goals from Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol.
Stones, who has had a season plagued with injuries, picked up an issue during England's friendly match against Belgium in March, much to the irritation of manager Pep Guardiola. He made his return to the City team in their game against Crystal Palace over the weekend and was part of the starting line-up at the Bernabeu for the high-profile quarter-final.
Playing alongside Ruben Dias in defence, Stones also took on a midfield role, replicating the hybrid position he excelled in last season. The ex-Barnsley player had more success in the second half and was instrumental in setting up Foden for the fourth goal of the evening, which brought the score to 2-2.
City were without Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake due to injuries, and suffered another blow when Kevin De Bruyne began vomiting as they reached the dressing room. Mateo Kovacic was a last-minute addition to the starting XI.
Rodri hailed the Blues' resilient display to secure a draw, acknowledging his own need for rest post-match. He praised teammate John Stones for his determination.
