Since the winter break Arsenal's form has been nothing short of extraordinary. The Gunners have wracked up seven wins from seven in the Premier League — the longest run of any team in the league this season.
Perhaps more importantly though, they scored 31 goals in the process. This has catapulted their goal difference from +17 at the end of 2023 to +45 by the start of March 2024!
The Premier League has only ever once been decided on goal difference. That year was the unforgettable «Agureooooo» moment that sealed the 2011/12 title race between Manchester City and Manchester United.
This season has all the hall marks of a race that could be equally tight. Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are all separated by just two points. With the former pair playing each other this weekend, Arsenal have the chance to go top of the Premier League, but their goal difference could be just as important as a win over Brentford.
Right now, the Gunners' goal difference is six higher than Liverpool and 10 higher than Manchester City. While both sides are capable of closing that gap very quickly given the attacking strength in depth they have at their disposal, it essentially gives Arsenal an extra point in the title race right now.
Going forward it's interesting to think how that number might change throughout the remainder of the season.

Manchester City have 11 games left to play this campaign. If you swap out play off promoted Luton for last season's bottom team Southampton, then their equivalent goal difference in those exact fixtures last season was +12.
