The title race has taken on a new complexion. For the first time in 2024 Arsenal are top of the table — even if it does prove to be for less than 24 hours — and the hunters have become prey.
Mikel Arteta's side didn't do it the easy way and channelled not their clinical goal machine from recent weeks but the nervy, emotion-driven one that took over towards the end of last year. Ultimately it won't matter as the three points won against Brentford sent them to the summit, at least temporarily.
There is a chance, depending on how the weekend's blockbuster between Manchester City and Liverpool goes, that they remain perched on top of the tree during the upcoming international break too. Unlike their opponents, Arsenal also don't have a game to worry about next weekend and can turn their full attention to the Champions League last-16 second-leg against Porto on Tuesday.
There is no sign of letting up here. Arsenal found their way to win at the Emirates Stadium much like Liverpool did seven days earlier at Nottingham Forest. It is not how it is done, but the end result that will decide where the trophy goes.
