Nwaneri made headlines last season by becoming the youngest player in English top-flight history as a late substitute against Brentford in September 2022, aged 15 years and 181 days. The midfielder has featured in a total of five matchday squads this term and replaced Gabriel Martinelli in the 77th minute against West Ham at the weekend.

After the game, Nwaneri took to Instagram and shared a series of photos from matchday alongside a heart emoji. In his post-match press conference, Arteta admitted that an unnamed substitute had been telling him to give Nwaneri time on the pitch and Aaron Ramsdale pointed supporters in the direction of Jorginho, helping to solve the mystery.
