Arteta claims there‘s a 'big reality' Ramsdale could stay at Arsenal next season

Mikel Arteta has stated that there is a 'big reality' that Aaron Ramsdale could remain at Arsenal next season despite the goalkeeper being linked with Newcastle.

There has been much uncertainty regarding Ramsdale's future at Arsenal after he lost his place in the starting lineup to David Raya earlier this season.

Newcastle have revived their interest in Ramsdale, who is eager to play regularly again.

Asked about Newcastle being interested in Ramsdale, Arteta, as reported by The Evening Standard, said: I'm not going to comment on those things'.

Arteta was then asked whether there is a suggestion that Ramsdale could still be at Arsenal next season, to which he replied: 'Suggestion? There is a big reality that Aaron is here because he is our player and has a contract.'

Ramsdale signed a contract extension with Arsenal last May that sees his deal run until the summer of 2026 with an option for a further year.

Since joining Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021, Ramsdale has made 89 appearances for the Gunners and has kept 32 clean sheets.

In addition, he has made four senior appearances for England.

This season Ramsdale has played just six times in the Premier League, with Raya, who is on loan from Brentford, having firmly established himself as the Gunners' number one goalkeeper.

Newcastle have targeted Ramsdale, 25, as they look to bring in a goalkeeper who can play a long-term part in their project.

Ramsdale previously worked under Newcastle boss Eddie Howe when they were together at Bournemouth.

Martin Dubravka is the current first-choice for the Magpies, while Nick Pope is closing on a return from injury.
