Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken about his conversation with Granit Xhaka before the Swiss captain left the north London club this summer
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has opened up on his conversations with Granit Xhaka before the veteran midfielder joined Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.
Xhaka enjoyed perhaps his best campaign since joining the north Londoners last season, netting seven goals and providing a further seven assists in the Premier League. The Gunners were unable to clinch the title, finishing five points behind Manchester City but considering how young Arteta's squad is, there remains hope that they can end their 20-year wait for league success in the upcoming season.
"He had a very clear desire that it was the right time and a big opportunity for him personally to move there. We had that conversation and in the end we all agreed that it was the right thing to move forward."
When discussing his unofficial debut, Havertz told football.london : "I’m proud to finally be here. Obviously it was maybe not the best game in the second half but I am very happy to be part of this group and it’s going to be a process and I’m going to give everything."
