The 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America is less than three years away and there are still some doubts about the venue that will host the final. Gianni Infantino, the organization's president, attended AT&T Stadium for the New York Jets at Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday, leading some to believe he's considering «Jerry World» for the tournament's most important game.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made several efforts to host the World Cup final in Dallas and hosting Infantino in one of his sky boxes is just the latest step of that plan.
Infantino, 53, witnessed the Cowboys defeat the Jets 30-10 in their home opener of the 2023 NFL season in front of an electric crowd of more than 90,000 fans.
The FIFA president had never been in attendance for a Cowboys game, though he has visited AT&T Stadium on two previous occassions.
According to various reports, Infantino was accompanied by an entourage consisting of the Cowboys brass, but received jeers from fans when appearing on the big screen.
Dallas is not the greatest sports venue in the USA. Stadiums in Los Angeles or New York, two of the most important market in the country, are on another level.
Several sources indicate that the main contender besides AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to host the World Cup final is New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, which is only slightly newer and has the advantage of being located in the New York market.
