Almost two years after Xavi Hernández's arrival on the FC Barcelona bench, the first-team has undergone huge changes. With four transfer windows completed, the Blaugrana coach has a squad this season that more closely resembles the one he envisaged when he landed at Camp Nou in November 2021.
Since Xavi took over the reins of the first team, he has used 55 players in the 94 games he has been in charge of the team: almost three entire squads in less than three seasons. Of those who took part in the first week of training, only eight players remain in the squad: Ter Stegen, Araujo, Sergi Roberto, Gavi, Pedri and De Jong, Iñaki Peña and Balde, the latter two with Barça Atlètic.
Xavi landed in the Catalan capital, taking over from Ronald Koeman, who was sacked after the defeat at Vallecas against Rayo (1-0) at the end of October. The sporting project had already begun and Xavi adapted to the circumstances, turning the sporting situation around. The team was adrift in the table but managed to secure second place in the standings.
Barça reinforced their squad in the winter transfer window with four new signings: Dani Alves, Ferran Torres, Adama Traoré and Aubameyang; of these, only the forward from Foios remains. In the summer there were also many movements in the team.
In the summer, seven more names arrived: Kounde, Christensen, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Marcos Alonso, Bellerín, Kessie and Pablo Torre. This season, another five additions: Gündogan, Oriol Romeu, Iñigo Martínez, Cancelo and Joao Félix.
In terms of departures, with Xavi in the dugout, there have been 32 departures of players who have played at least one game with Xavi in the first team.
Here is the full list: Neto, Dest, Alves, Bellerín, Piqué, Lenglet, Mingueza, Eric
