The Hairy Bikers are back on the road and this time they're visiting Merseyside.
As part of their new BBC series, The Hairy Bikers Go West, celebrity chefs Dave Myers and Si King are visiting Liverpool and Wirral for episode four which airs on Tuesday, February 27. Throughout their series Dave and Si are trying out the very best food on offer in each location and in Merseyside, that includes food from the Chinese community.
A delicacy loved by Scousers, which has links to our established Chinese community, are salt and pepper chips. Thanks to Chinese immigrants who came to Liverpool and opened up chip shops, salt and pepper chips originated from Chinese chippies in the mid 1990s.

As demand increased for the new Scouse-Chinese hybrid dish, restaurants started to offer it on their menus. During the Hairy Bikers' Merseyside episode, Dave and Si head to Chris's chippy to give their own take on salt and pepper chips.
Opened by husband and wife Chris and Christine Moustoukas, Chris's on Rose Lane has been going since 1967 and was one of the first takeaways in Liverpool to start offering Chinese dishes. Originally from Cyprus, the couple came to England in the 1950s and worked in London before moving to Liverpool and buying the shop from Chris' brother, Steve.
Now, 55 years on, Chris's is run by Tony and Costa Moustoukas, the second generation sons of this chippy dynasty. The menu has changed a lot over the decades, from offering the likes of just fish, fish cakes, pies, peas and curry sauce in the early days to now boasting an extensive menu offering Chinese dishes, Thai dishes, kebabs,
