Berbatov identifies 'underrated' Kane replacement as Tottenham get £100m fee

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could be available for transfer after London rivals Tottenham sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for an initial £100m this summer

Tottenham favourite Dimitar Berbatov reckons his former club should target 'underrated' Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Speculation over Lukaku and his Stamford Bridge future remains at fever pitch. Subject to interest from Juventus, among others, the Belgium international has yet to complete a switch away from Chelsea having seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements by Mauricio Pochettino, with the club declining to give him a shirt number for the coming season.

England captain Kane, meanwhile, has already made his debut for Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions signed him from Tottenham in a deal that could rise to £120million with add-ons. That means there are funds in the coffers for a high-profile successor.

Lukaku spent last season on loan at former club Inter - scoring 14 goals in 37 appearances - before returning to his permanent employers Chelsea this summer. As things stand, though, no final decision has been made on the striker with Berbatov urging Tottenham to come calling for the ousted 30-year-old.

Betfair ambassador Berbatov said: "Will Spurs invest the Kane money to buy a replacement? I think they will.

"No-one can replace Kane right now and I don't think he can ever be replaced, but Spurs need to find a goal-scorer. Richarlison has the opportunity to show he's good enough, but Spurs need to buy someone else, too."
