Brian Sorensen makes 'shaky' Everton admission after nightmare WSL start

Everton boss Brian Sorensen admits he was left "really disappointed" by the slow start his side made in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Blues made a disappointing return to Women's Super League (WSL) action, falling behind inside just four minutes at Walton Hall Park thanks to Elisabeth Terland's instinctive header. The Brighton forward doubled the visitors' advantage just ten minutes later, slotting coolly past Emily Ramsey after an inch-perfect through ball from Katie Robinson.

Everton were much improved after the break and new club captain Megan Finnigan halved the deficit with a composed finish on the 65 minute mark. But the Blues were unsuccessful in their pursuit of a late leveller and Sorensen concedes his side must work quickly to understand the cause of their early malaise if they are to achieve their WSL ambitions this term.

"We started so slow in everything that we do, like reactions, preparations in terms of how we want to play, everybody was more like standing still so that is really disappointing," he said. "I have to take that on my shoulders and see if there is anything we can do better there.

"It was across the board, it wasn’t two or three players; it was all. Also under pressure, we were too passive. We showed good character I think in terms of getting back to play the way we want to play and then really start to dominate. Not happy with the last 15 because that’s where we should take advantage of it."
