Kelechi Iheanacho showed off his Premier League pedigree as Leicester notched up a second win in two games under new boss Enzo Maresca.
Having been made to sweat for victory in their Championship opener against Coventry, the Foxes’ progress was far more serene at the Pirelli Stadium as Maresca made seven changes and watched his side saunter past League One Burton Albion.
Leicester were in cruise control from the sixth minute when Dennis Praet and Marc Albrighton linked up for the latter to pick out Iheanacho in the six-yard box.
The unmarked Nigeria striker drew upon the class of a man with 42 top-flight goals to his name to back-heel the visitors into the lead.
Dino Maamria’s Burton did not muster a shot on target and their challenge was all but ended on the stroke of half-time when they allowed Iheanacho to gallop into space down the left. He cut back for Wilfred Ndidi who picked out the top corner, allowing Maresca to sit back and enjoy the second half.
Summer signing Jason Knight scored twice as Bristol City thrashed Oxford 5-1 in an entertaining Carabao Cup first-round clash at Ashton Gate.
Oxford's Billy Bodin cancelled out Harry Cornick's opener, but Knight's brace either side of the interval put the hosts in charge before Nahki Wells and Kal Naismith added further goals.
AFC Wimbledon scored two late goals to knock Championship side Coventry City out of the Carabao Cup. Ryan McLean grabbed the winner in the third minute of injury time after Omar Bugiel's 86th-minute equaliser for the League Two team.
Ipswich Town won a Carabao Cup tie for just the second time in six seasons as they beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 at Portman Road.
