Nostalgia is a funny thing. In every aspect of life it is apparent and football is no different.
That is why it comes as no surprise that some Chelsea supporters are calling for Jose Mourinho 3.0. The 60-year-old has just been sacked from his position as manager of AS Roma with the club down in ninth- place in the Serie A table.
Mourinho joined Roma in 2021, spending two-and-a-half years in the Italian capital. He led them to European success in 2022, winning the Conference League and got them to the Europa League final last season where they were beaten by Sevilla on penalties.
So the former Chelsea boss is now a free agent and with some fans more than sceptical over Mauricio Pochettino and his position at the club, the inevitable has happened. Some are calling for Mourinho to be re-hired for a third time.
Roman Abramovich appointed Mourinho in 2004 for the first time after the Portuguese enjoyed success with FC Porto. In his first season with the club, he led them to Premier League success. The Blues picked up – at the time – the most points ever recorded in a single Premier League season with 95 and they conceded just 15 goals.
Chelsea then made it back-to-back league titles the following season. However, in September 2007, Mourinho unexpectedly departed Chelsea by 'mutual consent' after a reported series of disagreements with then owner Roman Abramovich.
