Real Madrid reveal Jude Bellingham injury update following Girona win

Real Madrid have confirmed Jude Bellingham sustained a high-grade ankle sprain during Saturday's 4-0 win over Girona.

Bellingham, who scored a brace in the crucial clash at the top of the table, was hauled off just before the hour mark at the Santiago Bernabeu having complained of discomfort in his ankle, with Brahim Diaz replacing him for the final third of the game.

Madrid have now confirmed the results of Bellingham's medical assessments, revealing in a statement: «After the tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Jude Bellingham has been diagnosed with a high-grade sprain in his left ankle. Evolution pending.»

Though Madrid have not given an official timescale on the injury, reports from Spain suggest he is likely to miss three weeks. Los Blancos' Champions League last 16 second leg at home to RB Leipzig on March 6 has been pencilled in as a potential return date.

Bellingham is set to miss the first leg with Leipzig this Tuesday before Madrid travel to crosstown neighbours Rayo Vallecano next Sunday.

Carlo Ancelotti's men will then host Sevilla on February 25 and then travel to Valencia on March 2 before hoping to welcome back Bellingham.

Bellingham has only missed one game for Madrid through injury since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund last summer, sitting out a 5-1 win against Valencia in November with a shoulder problem. He has scored 20 goals and registered eight assists in 29 games for Madrid so far this season.

Madrid are also currently without Antonio Rudiger after he sustained a thigh strain in their recent win at Getafe. David Alaba is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL, but Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois could make their returns from the same injury
