Quick trivia question: Chelsea have not had a player win the Premier League Player of the Month award since 2018. Over five years ago was the last time a Blues player picked up the trophy. But can you name who it is?
Have you guessed who it is yet? Yes, of course it's him. Eden Hazard won it back in September 2018.
In Hazard's four games in the Premier League during that month, he hit five goals – including a superb hat-trick against Cardiff City. It was a month where we saw Hazard near his brilliant best; something Chelsea supporters were treated to so often during his seven-year stay with the club.
While we don't really get to see such quality nowadays, there has been one man that has stepped up to the plate since signing for the club. And boy did Chelsea need that.
Cole (Cold) Palmer. The 21-year-old, who has been nominated for December's Premier League Player of the Month after four goals and two assists in six games, arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window – on deadline day – for £42.5million from Manchester City. After only getting flashes in the City first-team under Pep Guardiola, Palmer made the brave decision to move from Manchester, the place where he was brought up, to London and start a new career essentially.
People were questioning the fee at the time. Up until then, he had not really proven himself fully in the Premier League. He had not been given the chance to, to be fair.
