Reece James has sent Mykhailo Mudryk a heartwarming message after he scored his first goal for Ukraine ahead of Chelsea's clash against Arsenal. The Blues will welcome Mikel Arteta's side to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, and the 22-year-old winger will be desperate to feature and continue his rich vein of form.
On Tuesday night, Mudryk scored a stunning goal to secure his country a 3-1 win over Malta in a crucial European Championship qualifier. As England defeated Italy to book their place at Euro 2024, Ukraine moved above Luciano Spalletti's side into second place in Group C.
Delighted to have scored his first senior international goal, Mudryk marked the occasion with a celebratory post on Instagram. Fellow countryman and former Shakhtar Donetsk teammate Giorgi Sudakov offered his support in the comment section – as did Kepa Arrizbalaga, Angelo Gabriel and Reece James.
"[Red heart emoji]," posted the Chelsea captain under the Ukrainian's post. James' comment quickly racked up over a thousand likes, showing just how much Blues fans also want to see Mudryk succeed for club and country.
Mudryk has come on leaps and bounds recently, with Mauricio Pochettino protecting the youngster from outside pressure. Earlier this season, the Blues manager described him as 'unique' player but reminded supporters that he needs time to develop.
«The life of these guys, when they are so young, [it] changed,» the 51-year-old said. «You pay big money, big change from where they came. Also it's not about to arrive and to perform when you are young. It's about to adapt, it's about to help them to settle.
