Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus enjoyed a stellar display during his side's 2-1 victory against Sevilla on Tuesday evening. The Brazilian international provided a stunning assist for compatriot Gabriel Martinelli before doubling the north Londoners' lead with a sublime curling finish to secure all three points in an exciting UEFA Champions League clash in Spain.
But the night ended prematurely for Jesus, who limped off in the dying embers of the game after picking up a hamstring injury. That will likely see him sidelined for a few weeks if Mikel Arteta's recent comments are to be believed, with the Spaniard speaking about his centre-forward's fitness concern ahead of today's Premier League fixture against Sheffield United.
«Yeah, again, the scan showed that there is a muscle injury and we might lose him for a few weeks again,» Arteta said. «With Gabby, I cannot give you any timeframe as he always surprises us.»
The Gunners boss has a wealth of other attacking options at his disposal, including the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and even Gabriel Martinelli. But one surprise alternative could be Emile Smith Rowe, who Arteta himself has previously admitted could be deployed upfront.
“I think he can play in four positions," the Spaniard said of Smith Rowe last year. “As a left winger, a left attacking midfielder, a right attacking midfielder and he can play as a nine, very, very well.”
