Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert says that her team is motivated to honour outgoing manager Emma Hayes with a worthy send-off by pushing for silverware in all ongoing competitions.
Hayes will be leaving her successful 12-year spell at Chelsea this summer to manage the United States Women's National Football Team (USWNT). The Blues' next match is against Arsenal in the Women's Super League at Stamford Bridge on Friday.
Hayes' team are currently topping the table, tied on points with second-placed Manchester City and three points clear of their upcoming rivals, Arsenal. By the end of March, Chelsea will be facing Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals and Arsenal in the League Cup final, while they've also earned a spot in an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United recently.
Cuthbert, who has been with Chelsea since 2016, expressed: «We've done everything right until now, but we have the chance to either go on and be great or win nothing. Emma has reminded us of that. We really want to do it for Emma, I certainly do. It's well and good talking about a potential quadruple but we're at the point where we can still win absolutely nothing, so the main message is less talk, more action, and make sure when the big moments come we're ready.»
Further praising Hayes, she stated: «Emma's done a lot for me. She's done so much for the club. I will be grateful for her, and the way she's sort of driven the women's game in general as well. Whatever happens this season, Emma's legacy will not be defined in the space of three months, but of course, she'll want to go out on a high, and I think the players are all driven to give Emma the send-off she deserves.
»I'd love nothing more than to celebrate with her at the end of the season
