Chelsea manager Emma Hayes branded Jonas Eidevall's behaviour 'unacceptable' after his Arsenal side triumphed in the Continental Tyres League Cup Final.
Stina Blackstenius scored the winner for the Gunners in extra time at Wolverhampton Wanderers' Molineux Stadium, ending Chelsea's quadruple hopes in the process. And there appeared to be an altercation between the two managers at the full-time whistle, with Hayes seemingly shoving Eidevall out of the way after he had tried to shake her hand.
Reflecting on the incident in her post-match press conference, Hayes said: «I think there’s a way to conduct yourself on the touchline. I think it’s absolutely essential that we role model in the right way. I’m not down for male aggression on the touch line, I’m really not, and fronting up to players, for me, that’s unacceptable.
»I’m disappointed and I told Jonas that. I don’t think it’s okay to behave like that. He got a yellow card and he should have probably been sent off. I’m all for competing to win, I’ve never been booked in 12 years, my time here. I totally accept he’s a winner and wants to win but his behaviour on the touchline wasn’t acceptable."
The Blues boss' frustration appeared to stem from an argument over a throw-in between Eidevall and Chelsea captain Erin Cuthbert. Responding to Hayes' comments, Eidevall said: «I think that’s a very irresponsible way of labelling the behaviour that I had. I don’t think it’s the truth.»
He added: «There is a way to behave in the technical area, you need to be a good winner and a good loser. I am happy with the way I conduct myself, others need to look at themselves in the mirror.»
