Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has found himself on the outside looking in during the Reds' pre-season.
While Erik ten Hag brought Eriksen to Old Trafford last summer, the Dane's position in the United starting XI already appears to be in doubt as we head into 2023/24. Kobbie Mainoo began has ascension into the first team at the back end of last season and this progress has yet to stall.
Mainoo has started all of United's senior pre-season fixtures so far with the biggest accolade coming when he was kept in the team to face Real Madrid. Sadly for the teenager, this appearance lasted all of a couple of minutes as an unfortunate injury meant he was replaced by the 31-year-old.

Eriksen makes admission about last season's performances
However, while Mainoo has looked sharp and impressive, Eriksen appeared to be going through the motions somewhat as he failed to stand out against quality opposition. Due to the extent of the 18-year-old's injury, Eriksen is most likely going to be called upon again this weekend when the Reds travel to Las Vegas to face Borussia Dortmund.
Not only will this be a chance to show why he deserves to be in the team over Mainoo, Eriksen will be wanting to prove Ten Hag was right not to sign Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent deal. The Austrian this week signed with Dortmund and is in line to make his debut when the two teams meet in Nevada.
