City bar says 'be back soon' as it shuts its doors

A city centre venue has told customers it will “be back soon” as it closes.

Kitty’s Showbar, on Tithebarn Street, has temporarily shut its doors for a few weeks as the venue undergoes refurbishment. The interior changes come just months after it was announced the bar had come under new ownership.

Sharing the news on Facebook, the venue penned: “We are closed for a couple of weeks for a little paint job and refresh we (sic) be back soon. Lots of love Kitty’s.”

The venue had been co-owned by Billy and William Montgomery Coughlin - with the latter being known for their drag persona, Kitty Litter. Now, the LGBTQ-friendly bar is being managed by Lee Cockshott and Simon Ebers and the two previously told the ECHO of their excitement.

Lee, a 45-year-old from Brighton, said: “Simon and I are excited to take on this new challenge, keeping Kitty's the same with some new additions over the coming months. We want to help the previous management, who have retired, and continue their success since the venue became Kitty's Showbar.”

The inclusive bar was formerly The James Monro but underwent a massive renovation in 2019. It subsequently transformed into an LGBTQ+ safe space with a fresh lick of rainbow paint on its exterior.

Business partners Lee and Simon are no strangers to the industry as they currently manage five LGBTQ+ venues down south and have more than 10 years experience. The two hope to continue the legacy Kitty’s Showbar has already created for the community here in Liverpool.
