Chelsea were frustrated by Aston Villa as they failed to get into the FA Cup fifth-round on Friday night. The Blues were held to a goalless draw by the Villans despite creating a handful of big chances.
Cole Palmer was denied by Emi Martinez in the first half but failed to connect with an open volley after the break that could have given Mauricio Pochettino's side the lead. Conor Gallagher was also denied by the Argentine shot-stopper, nearly taking advantage of a wayward backpass.
Villa themselves threatened, especially with half an hour to go, and had an early goal chalked out beforeDjordje Petrovic dived away to his right to thwart Matty Cash. Pochettino will now have to ready his side for a replay in ten days as he balances injury issues.
Chelsea lost Levi Colwill before the game despite him being named in the starting XI and also had to do without Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia. They now travel to Liverpool on Wednesday and have lost a free mid-week due to added cup commitments.
