Longford Town 1 Cork City 4
Leaders Cork City came from behind to restore their seven point lead at the top of the First Division table with victory over injury-ravaged Longford Town at Bishopsgate.
Town, who are bottom of the table, without a win, and in search of a new manager must wonder when their luck will change, especially in terms of injuries to regulars.
Just over one minute and a half had lapsed when Town broke the deadlock. Sami Clarke picked up the ball and his low pass was finished to the net by Jordan Adeyemo - his second goal in two games since his return to the club.
City tried to get back into the game but Town defended well. They were on level terms in the 17th minute when Greg Bolger’s corner was headed home by Charlie Lyons. One minute later Harry Wood had a chance to put City ahead but he hit the post with his effort.
The visitors took the lead in the 22nd minute when Evan McLaughlin’s free found the head of the unmarked Cian Coleman and he directed the ball past Town keeper Jack McCarthy.
Tim Clancy’s side pressed from early in the second half. McCarthy saved from Cian Bargary in the 50th minute and then denied Coleman from close range. Minutes later Sean Murray took a shot but it was straight at the Town netminder.
The third goal came in the 56th minute and it was from another set piece; Coleman headed the ball on from a corner, and Lyons headed it home.
Both sides emptied their benches in a hope new personnel would have an impact on the game but neither keeper was forced into making any real saves of note after the hour mark.
Another corner saw Town concede a fourth goal in the 89th minute; Coleman claimed the goal but Bargary could have had a faint touch as the ball went in.
