The judge investigating the Dani Alves case has decided to prosecute the player for alleged sexual assault on a young woman in the early hours of December 31, 2022 at the Sutton nightclub.
The magistrate has set a date for the statement of the 40-year-old footballer for this Thursday, August 3, and that is the penultimate stage before a trial. The 15th Court of Instruction of Barcelona has closed the investigation against Alves and concludes that there are sufficient indications to allege that he sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman.
The Barcelona Court has concluded the investigation after carrying out the last missing test: a psychological examination of the victim at the Psychology Unit of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Catalonia (IMELEC) by experts appointed, to determine whether she suffered any damage after the alleged sexual assault.
The next step will be for the accusations to specify the sentence requests, which could be around 10 years in prison.
Dani Alves has been in prison since last January 20, when he was accused of alleged sexual assault in the aforementioned nightclub in Barcelona.
He is not expected to be released before the trial, since the Audiencia de Barcelona has already rejected his request to be released on bail twice.
The court took statements from the workers of the Sutton nightclub and the victim's friends, who explained that Dani Alves and his companion invited them to a private room. Once there, the Brazilian was allegedly «harassing» them. They even claimed before the judge that he groped them and they felt uncomfortable.
