Tottenham's hopes of signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher are reportedly over. Spurs are understood to have made a £40million bid for the England international but they have failed to get the transfer done.
Gallagher has faced an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Ange Postecoglou was keen to bolster his midfield options and the Chelsea star was viewed as the perfect fit.
The Blues are expected to listen to offers in the region of £45million for the 23-year-old, football.london understands. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have priced Gallagher out of a move to their London rivals by demanding £48million plus add-ons.
Spurs' inability to sell the likes of Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has not helped their ambitions of signing Gallagher. The midfielder's future now looks set to be in west London, meaning Brennan Johnson is expected to be the only new arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on deadline day.
News of Tottenham's failure to land Gallagher has sparked fury amongst supporters. Many have criticised the club board for their failure to get the deal done, whilst some have claimed the club should make a move for Fulham's Joao Palhinha.

@TheTHFC: To be honest, I'm not that fussed over keeping Hojbjerg over Gallagher
@footballconfid1: We'll just get Palhinha instead
@StevnBentn: Thanks Hojbjerg
@markie187: I knew this would happen
@shaunle61197008: Let
