The absence of Giovani Lo Celso through injury meant there was one spot up for grabs in Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham squad for Saturday's game at Burnley. Unable to include new signing Brennan Johnson in the travelling party as he was signed after the cut-off point to be eligible for this weekend's game, Postecoglou opted to bring summer addition Ashley Phillips in for the first time since his move from Blackburn Rovers.
That meant previous first-team squad regulars Eric Dier and Tanguy Ndombele were overlooked once again. With Phillips coming in as an alternative centre-back option, it very much signals that Dier is not in Postecoglou's thinking for the season.
Given the transfer window has now closed for business, the England international is is in a rather precarious position at the club with no sign of any match action coming his way. As it is such an important year for the player as well with Euro 2024 on the horizon, things do not look very promising at all for the former Sporting CP man.

Son and Solomon combine
Unable to net a goal in any of Tottenham's first four games of the campaign, Son Heung-min opened his account for the season in style at Turf Moor.
