Amid the previous concerns over naming a 25-man squad for the first half of the 2023/24 Premier League season, things should now be rather straightforward for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham. Following a late flurry of outgoings before the summer deadline, Spurs' big numbers gradually began to decrease.
They would then drop by a further two after the closure of the Premier League transfer window as the head coach gave the green light for both Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to link up with Galatasaray. Whereas the former has joined the Turkish giants on a permanent deal, the latter has only moved on a season-long loan and there is a chance he will return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium come next summer unless they activate their option to buy him.
The departures of their pair have seen Tottenham hit the magic number of 17 for their non-homegrown players, with Spurs' homegrown numbers standing at eight. As ever, clubs cannot name more than 17 non-homegrown players on the list and the remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be homegrown.
Now that Postecoglou's squad is in order, Tottenham and the rest of England's top flight have until 2pm on Wednesday, September 13 to submit their final 25-man playing squad to the Premier League. Whereas just over a week ago it looked like Postecoglou would be in a position where he had to cut players from the submitted squad, his main decision will now revolve around whether he includes long-serving Hugo Lloris in the 25-man party as he is still currently a Tottenham player.
