Ex-Tottenham star makes Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte point after Ange Postecoglou start

After years of sleeping-tablet football, Tottenham Hotspur fans finally feel alive again. The Spurs players, too, also appear liberated, no longer restrained by the shackles of an Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho system.

It is a testament to human psychology that, one or two faces aside, the same first-team squad, playing in the same stadium, wearing the same kit and in front of the same fans, can achieve vastly different results in such a short timeframe. But that is what Ange Postecoglou has inspired at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after just four Premier League games.

Not even the prolonged Harry Kane transfer saga could stop the 58-year-old in his quest to instil belief around north London. Possibly the most refreshing aspect about Postecoglou is how he genuinely wants to be in the hot seat.

At times, Conte and Mourinho appeared patronising, as if they were doing Tottenham a favour by being their manager. Those days are gone. Football fans across the country warmed to Postecoglou when he made a talkSPORT appearance in midweek. Calling reporters “mate”, as well as his brutal honesty, makes him relatable to the match-going fan.

There will be bumps in the road ahead but, for now, Spurs look as though they are heading in the right direction. Former striker Peter Crouch, another popular figure among fans of rival clubs, agrees.

“What’s good about Spurs at the minute is how nobody is talking about Harry Kane,” he told the 90min podcast. “There is something amazing about having the fans on your side again. Under Mourinho and Conte, it was toxic at times. In the last couple of years, especially, the fans have been getting on the board’s back.

“Understandably so, I went down there a lot last year and it was dire at times. Even when
