Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin has called on Daniel Levy «to uphold the values of the football family» in regards to Manor Solomon's Tottenham transfer. Having spent the 2022/23 season on loan with fellow London club Fulham, the Israel winger moved to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a free transfer in July and signed a permanent contract with Ange Postecoglou's team until the summer of 2028.
Solomon did have a contract with Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of 2023 but FIFA granted the right to all non-Ukrainian nationals playing in that country to be able to suspend their own contracts amid the conflict in the country, a suspension which went beyond the end of the player's Shakhtar deal. It was a transfer that did not sit well with the Ukrainian club, especially as he was one of their prized assets and a player they believed was valued at €20million (£17m).
Now nine months on from Solomon's move to north London, Shakhtar are still looking for a resolution between both parties. Palkin has made it clear if the club are not offered a future sell-on fee that they deem acceptable then they may have no other option but to take it to court.
“We are not asking for money from Tottenham. We are asking for a good sell-on fee for the future," said the Shakhtar CEO, as reported by the Evening Standard. «If you sell him for good money we both receive something. It’s not respectful that they only offer us 10 per cent sell-on fee. It’s as if they don’t respect football values or what happens in Ukraine.
“I am appealing to the moral side as if we don’t find a solution, we will have to go to court to the legal side. I want to appeal to Daniel Levy to urge him to uphold the values of the football family.»
