Daniele De Rossi was reportedly so keen to become manager of Roma he made only one contract demand before signing a deal.
The club legend has made more than 600 appearances in Roma's midfield between 2001 and 2019.
After joining the club's academy in 2000, he went on to captain the team and win two Coppa Italias before leaving for Boca Juniors.
He does, however, have limited coaching experience having worked with the Italian federation and Serie B side SPAL, who sacked him a year ago.
But, it appears he was willing to do anything to get his dream job at Roma, according to the Athletic.
De Rossi was so enthusiastic to sign his Roma deal that there were no conditions to his acceptance other than a bonus should the club qualify for the Champions League.
Speaking about joining the club as coach, he said: 'The emotion of being able to sit on our bench is indescribable, everyone knows what Roma is for me, but the work that awaits all of us has already taken over.
'We have no time, no choice. Being competitive, fighting for our goals and trying to achieve them are the only priorities that my staff and I have given ourselves.'
De Rossi made his intentions to become a coach clear following his retirement in 2020, starting the UEFA A licence course in December of that year.
After being part of Roberto Mancini's coaching team for the Euro 2020 success which saw Italy beat England on penalties in the final, De Rossi finished his licence course before becoming a technical collaborator for the under 15 to under 20 youth representatives at the Italian Football Federation.
In September 2022, after helping with the Italian side's qualification campaign for the 2022 World Cup, he was admitted to the UEFA Pro licence course, before being appointed
