Danny Murphy believes Liverpool signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be a good move.
The England international has been tentatively linked with a switch across the North West. Phillips has struggled to cement a starting berth in Pep Guardiola's side after signing from Leeds United last summer.
In each of the Citizens' first four matches this season, Phillips has been an unused substitute. And a report from talkSPORT claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was considering a swoop for the 27-year-old after losing out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool moved to bolster their midfield ranks with the acquisition of Wataru Endo, last week, after both primary midfield targets opted to sign for Chelsea.

But with Phillips facing an uncertain future at club level ahead of the European Championships in Germany next summer, Murphy believes the former Elland Road hero would provide another good option to Klopp's squad selection.
"I wouldn’t be that disappointed if Liverpool got him," the former Reds midfielder told talkSPORT. "I think he’s a talent and he’d be great cover or even make that position his own because they’ve only got Endo really who can play that position."
Klopp's midfield rebuild is still taking shape. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were unveiled as Liverpool players before the top-flight campaign commenced while Japan captain Endo was handed his debut on Saturday during the 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.
