Gary Neville believes Darwin Nunez's double versus Newcastle United could give the striker lift-off in his Liverpool career.
Nunez endured a mixed first season at Anfield following his transfer from Benfica last summer and has found himself on the bench for each of the Reds' first three Premier League games of the current campaign.
Deployed from the bench in the 77th minute of Sunday's match at St James' Park, the 24-year-old took just four minutes to get Jurgen Klopp's side back on level terms before firing home a winning goal in stoppage time to seal a dramatic Liverpool comeback.
Nunez will now hope this can be the performance that sees him earn a run of starts in the side as he aims to displace the likes of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, and Neville is of the view he could well be on his way to doing just that after his statement showing.
