Kaide Gordon made a long-awaited return from injury as Liverpool Under-21s fell to their first defeat of the Premier League 2 season.
The 18-year-old, who signed for Liverpool in February 2021 from Derby County's academy setup, was given a few months before being handed an opportunity to break into Jurgen Klopp's squad.
In the 2021/22 campaign the winger would make his first-team debut in a 3-0 win over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup before bagging his first goal for the club during a 4-1 FA Cup home triumph over Shrewsbury Town, becoming the Reds' second youngest goalscorer to date in the process and the youngest in that specific competition.
A Premier League debut swiftly followed however so too did a nasty pelvic issue related to Gordon's growth. This left him unable to play since February 2022 until today, when he returned to match action at the Kirkby academy.

He came into Sunday's clash against Middlesbrough as a 74th minute substitute for Melkamu Frauendorf, going on to complete the remaining 16 minutes plus another 10 minutes of additional time.
Klopp was of course unable to watch on as he was pre-occupied with his own team's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa at Anfield, though by now one would imagine the positive news has filtered through to the boss.
And Gordon himself was evidently pleased to finally get back out on the turf as he shared a confident message to his Instagram followers.
Otherwise it was an afternoon of disappointment for Barry Lewtas' team as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough
