It’s taken a little while but Dominic Solanke’s performances for Bournemouth in recent seasons have seen become a bonafide Premier League marksman.
It’s four years since the now 25-year-old departed Liverpool for the Cherries. At the time it was seen as a shrewd move by the Reds in moving on a player with limited game time and a one-goal return in 21 Premier League appearances for a deal worth an initial £19m plus add-ons.
But Solanke has continued to grow with each campaign, his 29 Championship goals in 2021/22 propelling Bournemouth back into the big time. Last season a return of six in 33 games perhaps didn’t tell the full story when it came to his contribution to the Cherries as they preserved their top-flight status. He also weighed in with seven assists, a club high.
His highlight reel after just two matches of this Premier League season, where he netted in the opening day draw at home to West Ham United, has seen him draw admiring glances. West Ham, on the wrong side of Solanke’s display on matchday one, were one of those to show an interest in the striker during the summer transfer window, meanwhile Fulham were also linked with a move worth a figure between £35m and £40m.

Liverpool are understood to have realised most of the add-ons in the 2019 Solanke deal, totalling some £24m. As part of the sale, former Reds sporting director Michael Edwards was key in negotiating two clauses according to what sources have previously told the ECHO, with one a buyback clause and the other a 20% sell-on clause.
