Liverpool Women's manager Matt Beard has signed a contract extension with the club ahead of the new Women's Super League (WSL) season.
The 45-year-old was first appointed Reds boss in 2012, winning two league titles in the space of three seasons before leaving to manage the Boston Breakers in the USA. After spells with West Ham and Bristol City, Beard returned to Merseyside in 2021.
In his first season back at the helm, his side won the 2021/22 FA Women’s Championship, earning promotion to the WSL, where they finished seventh last term. And Beard has now committed his future to the club once more as as the Reds bid to close the gap on the top flight's elite.
“I’m delighted," he told Liverpoolfc.com after penning a new deal. "Obviously everyone knows what the club means to me, so it was an easy decision really for me to extend my stay here. I think we’re [at the] early stages of a big project and you’ve really got the future to look forward to.

“I’m excited for the future of the team because I think we’ve got a good group here, a good young group as well that can grow.”
It's been a busy summer for Liverpool Women, with the Reds having brought in seven new players and relocated to their new state-of-the-art training base at Melwood. Speaking about how the move could impact his team, Beard said: “I think Melwood is a massive step in the right direction for us. It’s game-changing, to be honest.
