Steven Gerrard 'had words' with Liverpool coach after red card and Everton striker sent 'into a wall'
Steven Gerrard was once shown a straight red card as a Liverpool youngster for a cynical tackle on Everton's Francis Jeffers, Hugh MacAuley has revealed.
The incident saw the Blues striker Jeffers, who would go on to make his debut for the club and move to Arsenal, career into a wall next to the home dugout as the future Reds skipper lashed out.
Liverpool were behind at the time to their neighbours, although dominated against their rivals and the frustration boiled over for Gerrard - who later made his debut as an 18-year-old under Gerard Houllier in 1998.

The 70-year-old McAuley started off at the Reds academy before enjoying a professional playing career at the likes of Plymouth, Charlton Athletic and Tranmere Rovers.
He returned as a coach within the Reds academy where he saw the likes of Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen through the ranks.
And has recalled a moment of madness from Gerrard during one of his early experiences against Everton.
He said: "Franny Jeffers was just coming past where we were standing on the halfway line.
"Steven, who had got frustrated by then not having much luck, and just basically took him out and into the wall behind me and Frank Skelly.
"Steven did no more than just walk off the field, didn't bother speaking to the referee, he knew he was sent off. He went to the mini-bus and sat in the corner. Needless to say there were words between me and him when we got back to Melwood."
