The City midfielder was involved in a scuffle with Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White just seconds after the restart and put his hands on the neck of the England Under-21 international before appearing to push him to the ground.
Rodri, who has been a key figure for Pep Guardiola's side since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019, will now miss the League Cup tie against Newcastle United and Premier League fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal as he is expected to serve a three-match domestic ban.
And after referee Anthony Taylor brandished a red card in the direction of the City man, Liverpool fans were quick to crack jokes at the incident involving the Spaniard.
