Free agent David de Gea is continuing to attract interest ahead of the January transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper, 33, has been unattached since the summer after ending his 12-year association with Manchester United. The decision to part ways came after De Gea endured an underwhelming end to the 2022/23 campaign, with United opting to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan as his replacement.
De Gea has been courted by plenty of high-profile clubs and has rejected numerous offers, including proposals from the Saudi Pro League. And after showcasing his talents in the Premier League for over a decade, unsurprisingly, De Gea also has admirers on these shores.
Newcastle have been touted as a potential destination for De Gea in recent weeks, with the Magpies currently without their first-choice shot-stopper, Nick Pope. The England international is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery for a dislocated shoulder.
The Mail claimed earlier this month that De Gea would be open to a move to St James' Park after turning down other clubs. It is understood the former United goalkeeper is 'more receptive' to approaches after spending the first half of the season without a club.
De Gea has even been tentatively linked with a shock return to Manchester United, who could be without Onana for a handful of Premier League matches as a result of his call-up to the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
It is understood that United were caught off-guard by Onana's decision to reverse his retirement from international football shortly after his summer switch from Inter Milan. Altay Balindir and Tom Heaton are the other two senior goalkeepers on the books at Old Trafford.
