Destiny Udogie sent a Tottenham message following the 4-0 win over Aston Villa after being on the receiving end of a horror tackle by John McGinn that saw him sent off. The Lilywhites were two goals in front when the Scotland international stormed into a reckless challenge on Udogie that left him on the floor.
Understandably, given how dangerous the foul was, a number of Tottenham stars confronted McGinn before Chris Kavanagh showed him a red card. With Ange Postecoglou's side having the man advantage, another two goals followed, with Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson on target.
Despite Spurs dominating the game following McGinn's early departure, Postecoglou did not believe the moment played a key role in the final outcome. «I don't think it was a key moment,» he admitted in a press conference. «We were in control.
»Obviously, it made it easier but it was just a by-product of the pressure we were putting on them. I don't think it was a malicious one from John." In the immediate aftermath of the foul, Udogie looked set to confront McGinn, but he instead fell back to the ground after not being able to put much weight on his injured leg.
Udogie was able to continue and help see out the huge win; however, he did manage to take to social media after the game. Alongside a collage of images, he captioned the Instagram post: «Taking control. Staying focused. Doing the job.»
Following an injury to Micky van de Ven, Udogie also had the challenge of helping ease substitute Radu Dragusin into the game, with the Romania international putting in a great display despite picking up a yellow card. After the victory, Postecoglou delivered his verdict on the severity of van de Ven's injury before delving into his thoughts on Dragusin's cameo.
