Manchester City want to reward Rodri with a massive pay hike in a bid to keep the Spanish midfielder at the Etihad for life.
Pep Guardiola believes the 27-year-old has developed into his most important player over the last 12 months. And City are ready to hand the man who scored the winning goal in last season's Champions League final with a new deal that will take his basic wage to £300,0000-a-week.
Rodri is currently on £180,000-a-week and still has just over three years left on the contract he signed in the summer of 2022. But City want him to commit to another extension.
They believe Rodri has developed into the best defensive midfielder in the world since he arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2019. The Premier League champions are planning to open negotiations with the player who has become a vital operator for both club and country.
He is one of Guardiola's five captains in the City dressing room and is seen as the natural successor to wear the armband when Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne eventually move on.
De Bruyne was on fine form on Saturday as his brace - the second of which was his 100th goal for the club - helped secure a 4-2 win over Crystal Palace.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, De Bruyne said: "It was good. It has been a very untypical season with the injuries and coming back. Sometimes I feel good, sometimes I feel a little bit off with my body. I have tried to prepare myself as best as possible. I try to do the job as good as possible and today I did well."
City opted to rest the in-form Phil Foden for the trip to Selhurst Park, but De Bruyne thinks the pair can perform well when they are in the same team.
