Hajduk Split sporting director Mindaugas Nikolicius has stated that «there is dialogue» with Tottenham regarding a potential deal for Ivan Perisic. A key player for the Lilywhites in the opening weeks of the 2023/24 season, the Croatian international is currently on the sidelines after suffering a complex anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in September.
Sustaining the injury in non-contact training, Spurs said in a statement at the time that Perisic «is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season». With Croatia taking part in Euro 2024 come the end of the term, the 34-year-old will be doing everything in his power to put himself in the best possible position to feature in the tournament in Germany.
Despite taking his place in the treatment room at present, that has not stopped talk of the ex-Inter Milan ace sealing a return to his hometown club. Coming through Hajduk Split's academy before moving to France to link up with Sochaux in 2006, Perisic has been tipped to finish his career back at Hajduk.
As the January window is now open for business, Hajduk sporting director Nikolicius discussed a possible move for the experienced player and revealed why they do not have to get a deal over the line before the Premier League transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday, February 1.
“Ivan is hurt, it’s too early. We have to see when he will recover, when he will be able to run and play,” he said. as reported by SportSport via Sport Witness. «The transfer window here lasts until the middle of February and that is an advantage for us.
