George Best’s family has called on fans in possession of items that once belonged to the late Manchester United star to loan them to the Old Trafford Museum.
Norman McNarry, who is married to Best’s sister Barbara, appealed for exhibit items after claiming visitors found the current offerings at the Red Devils’ museum to be “disappointing”.
Mr McNarry, who is the director of The George Best Company, said the museum is “lacking a significant collection of objects to truly shine a spotlight on George in the way that we would like”.
“We do not have many of his possessions or items relating to his life or history here at Old Trafford. We do not even have a Best Manchester United shirt,” he said in an online appeal.
“We would like to appeal to anyone that may be interested in helping us to honour George in the way we would like by loaning us objects that could be used on display within the museum at Old Trafford.”

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr McNarry explained that his issue is not with the Old Trafford Museum, pointing to a “good relationship” between the family and the club.
They were recently invited to Old Trafford to mark the 60th anniversary of George’s Manchester United debut.
Mr McNarry described the visit as “fantastic” and said his family is very “pally” with the museum.
