Tottenham fans have spotted a crucial moment involving Liverpool star Diogo Jota 20 minutes before he was controversially sent off. The Portugal international replaced Cody Gakpo at half-time after he picked up an injury scoring the equaliser, although Jota was unable to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after being dismissed midway through the second half courtesy of two yellow cards.
Prior to his dismissal, Curtis Jones was shown a straight red card, following a VAR review, for a late challenge on Yves Bissouma. To take the lead, Tottenham used their man advantage to open up Liverpool with an incisive James Maddison pass finding Richarlison who squared for Son Heung-min to tap home.
The hosts' domination was left in vain just before half-time though when Gakpo turned home Virgil van Dijk's header to put the game level at the interval. Spurs remained in control of the game as the second half elapsed with their grip on proceedings becoming that much tighter after Jota was shown a red card.
While there were no arguments about the challenge that led to his sending off, the first booking was harsh to say the least. Destiny Udogie broke down the left and passed Jota before he tumbled to the floor, with the belief being a tangle of legs had caused Udogie to fall, however upon seeing a replay it was hard to tell if there was any contact at all with Jota's knee brushing Udogie's foot at best, causing the Italian to hit his own foot with the other, to tumble over.
