The Duke Street pub and restaurant announced yesterday morning it has been "forced to close" with staff confirming the last day of trading will be Friday, October 13. While the owners have yet to confirm why the pub needs to close, another business above, The Oracle, stated it is relocating because the building it is housed in has been sold.

The bar said it would take "some time" to get back up and running but hoped to be "greeting" customers again soon. After The Monro's announcement, the venue was inundated with messages from customers reminiscing on their past visits. While many were sad to see the venue go, others shared touching stories of the impact it had on their lives and relationships.
Online reader Aussie110 said: "The Monro was our local in the 60s. The Walkers (Brewery) offices were across the road from it so all the bosses and staff used to go there. Great staff then and fond memories of the darts team and friends many a good night there."
Another user, ItsJustAName added: "Truly the end of a historic epic pub in the heart of Liverpool. Serving drinks to local residents and visitors to the city centre it will be sadly missed by everyone."
