In the last few years, Manchester United have been meagre at best when it comes to offloading players for a suitable fee. Perhaps the last appreciable sale was Romelu Lukaku’s £73million move to Inter Milan in 2019.
Fans will wonder what happened to that money given United’s tepid signings since then. Around £73m of that was splashed on Jadon Sancho, who is currently exiled amid his fall out with Erik ten Hag.
He is set for a loan exit in January ahead of a probable summer sale if a resolution isn’t found. At 23, Sancho is still young enough to command a sizeable fee, unlike fellow 2021 recruit Raphael Varane.

The 31-year-old is out of form and is struggling to get ahead of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, two teammates who could have left in the summer. Ten Hag has rubbished claims that there is a rift between him and the Frenchman and has branded him a “very important player”.
There has been speculation that both he and Casemiro are for the chop when Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrives as he eyes a change of tack. United have been criticised for overspending and underselling.
Casemiro was brought in on a five-year contract aged 30 last year and has been one of many failing to hit top gear this season, and is now out until at least Christmas with a hamstring injury.
Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic were both allowed to leave for free in 2022 after expensive arrivals, as was record £89m signing Paul Pogba. Ratcliffe, an astute billionaire businessman, will be eager to turn that particular tide upon his 25% stake investment.
