Douglas Community School lifted the U19 Munster FAI Schools Challenge Cup after they defeated John the Baptist Community School, Hospital at Carrig Park in Fermoy on Monday afternoon.
Ciaran O’Suilleabhain was the hero for Douglas as he scored the winning goal in a tight contest and ensured that the Munster U19 Senior Challenge Cup returned to Cork.
The final got off to a cagey start with both sides restricted to half chances early in the game.
However, with John the Baptist CS adopting a more defensive set up, Douglas had a spell of possession and became more dominant as the half progressed.
They were soon rewarded as they broke the deadlock when O’Suilleabhain latched onto a superb pass from their captain Lucas Curtain and finished clinically.
Both sides had chances before half time but neither side could change the scoreline although Douglas thought they had added a second goal through O’Suilleabhain again but on this occasion his effort was ruled offside.
After the break, John the Baptist CS adopted a more attacking shape and the game ebbed and flowed from end to end with the Hospital school side trying desperately to get back into the game.
Despite the rise in tempo, both sides were again restricted to half chances due to the stern defences on the display.
The best chance of the second half fell to John the Baptist CS when the superb Adam Finn hit the woodwork in the 80th minute with an excellent free-kick.
In the final minutes, John Baptist CS pushed forward in search of an equaliser but they failed to muster any clear cut chance due to brilliant defending from the Douglas rearguard, which was enough
