Portadown 5 Dungannon Swifts 2
Portadown's hat-trick hero Eamon Fyfe
Portadown celebrated a first piece of knockout silverware in 15 years when they lifted the Mid-Ulster Cup on Tuesday night.
The Ports swept past Dunganon Swifts 5-2 at Shamrock Park to savour a silver lining again after their League Cup triumph in 2009.
Eamon Fyfe scored a hat-trick for the five-star Championship side.
Two quick-fire goals in the opening half put Niall Currie’s men in the driving seat.
Fyfe got the ball rolling on 11 minutes when he tucked the ball home from close range and two minutes later Luke Wilson doubled his side’s lead with a header.
The Swifts fought to reduce the deficit but Cathal McGinty's diving header was deflected narrowly wide.
Ryan Mayse fired the Ports 3-0 ahead in the 38th minute, leaving the Swifts with a mountain to climb.
Thomas Maguire pulled one back in the 57th minute but seconds later Fyfe slotted in his second of the game. Fyfe then completed his hat-trick on 72 minutes before Dean Curry made it 5-2.
The Mid-Ulster Cup was a trophy not won by the Ports since back-to-back successes in 2002 and 2003.
On a wet and windy night at Shamrock Park, Portadown were reunited with the prize.
Portadown have booked their place in the BetMcLean Cup Final against Linfield and are hoping to seal promotion to the Premiership.
In a pre-season friendly at Mourneview Park, Derry City defeated a Glenavon side 4-0.
The North West Cup Final between Limavady United and Institute at Brandywell Stadium was postponed.
